Electric Vehicle surge embraced by Ayr United as charging points take off at Somerset Park.
Ayr United Football Club are a football club in Ayr, Scotland, who play in the Scottish Championship, the second tier of the Scottish Professional Football League. Their home stadium, Somerset Park is located centrally in the town and is one of the few surviving traditional stadium designs left in Scotland, it consists of one stand, two covered terraces, and one open terrace and has a capacity of 10,185.
Given the rising uptake of Electric vehicles, the club required reliable charging infrastructure with a dynamic back office solution, allowing them to monetise their EV chargers, offset their electricity costs, run reports and quantify energy usage. The installation of charging points offer a new way for the club to attract new visitors whilst also accommodating the increasing uptake of EV's amongst their fans & staff which encourages sustainable travel practices.
Following a successful site survey, we proceeded on the recommendation to install 2 x 22kw Fast charging units with full integration to the Get connekted app allowing their visitors to charge their Electric Vehicles.
These units were pole mounted after completing ground work from the existing power supply to the new EV charging area situated in the newly tarmacked car park. Connekt carry out all the electrical work, ground works and installation of the solution with our own highly experienced in-house team. All works were carried out during the day to avoid any disruption to matchday operations with minimal disruption to business.
The chargers are connected and integrated to our own advanced, cloud based back office system, with drivers signing up via our Get Connekted app. This allows the business to manage and monitor their charging solution, run reports and generate a new revenue stream for the club by setting preferential tarrifs and rates.

Upon successful installation, the Connekt chargers are integrated with our Get Connekted app. This works alongside our advanced cloud-based operating platform which fully automates 24/7 service delivery, payment processing and energy cost reduction allowing bespoke tariffs to be set which can be used to either monetise the charging facilities to create a new revenue stream or cover the cost of installation.
Our app has been designed to make the entire charging experience as simple as possible. Drivers simply sign up to our Get Connekted app, input their login and payment details and are ready to go. Drivers can search for their nearest charging point to their current location as well as managing their own digital wallet to prepay or top up as when desired.
As part of our commercial partnership with the club, all Ayr United season ticket holders can benefit from discounted charging rates at the stadium facilities via our Get Connekted app.
