Transport Scotland & Energy Saving Trust EV Charging Infrastructure Fund

The Scottish Government has confirmed £17.8 million of funding for a package of incentive schemes in 2026-27 to support the continued uptake of electric vehicles (EVs) and the expansion of EV charging infrastructure. All schemes will be delivered by Energy Saving Trust and will operate in tandem with existing UK Government EV incentives. Is your business eligible?

The Rural and Island Infrastructure Fund is open to landowning businesses and charge point operators. To qualify, you need to:

  • Own, or have permission to work on, privately owned land on a Scottish island or in a category 5-8 postcode under the Scottish Government Urban Rural Classification

  • Be a registered business with a UK bank account used for business purposes

  • Make the chargers publicly accessible, listed on a public network map

  • Meet the Public Charge Point Regulations 2023

How much funding is available?

Funding depends on the power of the charge points. Island sites and category 7-8 postcodes can receive 100% funding; category 5-6 postcodes can receive 75%.

AC charge point (3.7-22kW)

Up to £15,000 per single or dual unit (up to £11,250 in category 5-6 areas).

DC charge point (20-49kW)

Up to £30,000 per single or dual unit (up to £22,500 in category 5-6 areas).

DC charge point (50-124kW)

Up to £45,000 per single or dual unit (up to £33,750 in category 5-6 areas).

DC charge point (125-350kW)

Up to £60,000 per single or dual unit (up to £45,000 in category 5-6 areas).

Charging with storage or solar

Up to £300,000 for innovative projects combining charge points with energy storage, or with storage and solar PV.

How we get you funded

As a market-leading charge point operator, Connekt helped deploy close to 50% of the previous grant fund. We can apply on your behalf, so you can focus on running your business.

  1. 1.Check your eligibility

    Send us your postcode and we will confirm whether your site is on a Scottish island or in an eligible rural category.

  2. 2.Free site survey and quote

    We assess your site, power supply and visitors, and recommend the right chargers for how people use it.

  3. 3.We prepare and submit the application

    With your authorisation, we submit the application to Energy Saving Trust as your charge point operator, including the evidence and project plan they require.

  4. 4.Installation and switch-on

    Once funding is offered, our installers fit and commission your chargers. Energy Saving Trust cannot fund work that has already started, so nothing begins until the offer is in place.

  5. 5.Live on the Get Connekted network

    Your chargers go live on the Get Connekted app and public network maps, monitored through Connekt Cloud with 99.13% network uptime and 24/7 driver support.

Rural grant questions

How much funding can I get?

It depends on the charge point power and your location. Island sites and category 7-8 postcodes can receive 100% funding, up to £15,000 per AC unit and up to £60,000 per high-power DC unit. Category 5-6 postcodes can receive 75%. Projects combining charging with energy storage or solar PV can receive up to £300,000.

Does my location qualify?

Your site must be on a Scottish island or in a category 5, 6, 7 or 8 postcode under the Scottish Government Urban Rural Classification. Energy Saving Trust has a postcode checker on its fund page, or send us your postcode and we will check for you.

Do the chargers have to be open to the public?

Yes. The fund only supports publicly accessible charge points that appear on a public network map and meet the Public Charge Point Regulations 2023. Your guests and staff can still use them, alongside other drivers.

Who can apply?

A landowning business or a charge point operator can apply. As your charge point operator, Connekt can submit the application on your behalf with your written authorisation, so you do not have to manage the paperwork yourself.

Is the fund still open?

Grants are offered on a first come, first served basis and the fund can close without notice during the financial year. Energy Saving Trust cannot fund projects that are already complete or under way, so it is worth starting early.
